The Baffin Street Gallery is situated on the main road on the southern approach to Pirongia village with lovely views to Mount Pirongia. The gallery specialises in original prints, there are etchings and aquatints, mezzotints and lithographs, collographs and monotypes, woodcuts and wood engravings, and a few delightful art works by talented local crafts people.
Every month we hang a selection of work from the gallery at The Persimmon Tree Cafe in Pirongia. This usually includes pieces from the previous month's exhibition or featured printmaker.
During July there is an exhibition to run at the same time as the New Zealand Embroiderers Gild Conference in Hamilton. the exhibiting artists are Jane Siddall, who one the Supreme Award from the Conference exhibitions; Laura Hudson who started life as an embroiderer and who is now an accomplished printmaker and is teaching printmaking at a workshop for the embroiderers; Kate Hill, a Hamilton printmaker who often uses stitch within her prints, and Carole Shepheard whose book uses buttons to tell stories of New Zealand and family life. it is a fascinating exhibition which will hang until the 9th of August. For the rest of August of there will be a display of work by gallery printmakers. During September the exhibition will be 'Manuscripts and Artists' Books'. This is shaping up to be a most interesting exhibition. From mid October to mid November I hope to have images of rowers and rowing to coincide with the World Championships in Karapiro.
